What a wonderful end to this duology. I loved that Zhu felt like less of an anti-hero in this. She kind of seemed to go with the flow and the character development didn't feel forced.
I do think I'll need to read something cute and cozy next though. Parker-Chan did an amazing job at captivating true darkness of humanity. I was there for it and because I do have this darker side of myself, I see myself re-reading this series. There was so much that happened throughout these two books that I feel like I could read it a few more times and still get some new 'ah-ha' moment.

Great book.
Both these books were a delight, but I think the second is even better and builds so well on the first. I love the tone of the books, the history, and how there’s elements of fantasy but more in how exceedingly lucky and clever all the characters are. There’s a lot of action but also a lot of deep exploration of power, ambition, gender, and gender roles, done beautifully and tenderly. Great story and really good writing.

Wow. This book was so well written and I loved it so much more than the first. I didn't realize that it was a historical retelling of the Ming Dynasty overthrow of the Mongol Dynasty. I'm honestly blown away and so glad I took the time to read it. So well done and lots of thought-provoking content.
After reading the first book I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the end of the duology but I'd honestly highly suggest this book.
