An absolutely stunning conclusion to the Radiant Emperor Duology. These characters will stick with me forever. I will never stop recommending this series. I didn’t want this book to end!

I forgot I had it in my Libby :/

This duology is perhaps perfect. It's all about gender and yet not about gender at all. It's about good and evil but the characters aren't relegated to one or the other. Like real people they live in the grey mess that is the in between. It made me angry, happy, tense, and relieved. I can't wait to see what Parker-Chen does next.

literally don’t know how to be normal about this book. at all.

how is it possible to love and hate basically every character in this book?? i love how well parker-chan presents these characters and their flaws to us. everyone is so multi-faceted that it’s hard to decide how i feel about anyone, but the lovely part of this book (and she who became the sun, too!) is that parker-chan doesn’t try to invoke sympathy from their readers. we feel for the characters and the rawness of their pain, we resent them, we fear them, we deplore them, and yet we understand them — none of this is sugarcoated. the heart of each character is laid bare in this book and left for the readers to feast upon.

(but also ma did nothing wrong, ever, and i love her endlessly)
