Definitely my favourite in the Six Crimson Cranes series, Her Radiant Curse is the prequel, following the perspective of Channari. It was action packed, heart wrenching, and beautifully written.

The prose and setting/ character description was so vivid and beautifully put, it made my heart sing. As I have already read the Six Crimson Cranes books, I already knew where the events were going, which only made the read more emotional. However, I thought I wouldn't get super into it, because I already knew the ending, but I was sooooo invested and along for the ride. The story didn't take me where I thought it would either.

I felt really close and connected to Channari in particular, rooting for her and reading impatiently to find out more. Learning more about her journey was truly beautiful. Many side characters also shone out, some which I expected, and others which I didn't!

All in all, if you've read the Six Crimson Cranes series already, I would totally urge you to read this one, I think it's the best in the series!! If you've not read the series and like Chinese Mythology inspired fantasy with beautiful description and an action packed plot, then definitely check the series out!!

Not sure how I feel about.  Felt very rushed and confusing at times. I couldn’t picture the character of Hokzuh at all.
The story felt rushed (the kept going into situations without a real plan) and lots of plot points weren’t really explained.
For example, why did the King of Snakes protect her? How did Vanna end up with the Pearl?
it felt a bit disappointing and I wasn’t as hooked as I am reading over fantasy books.
I also hated how the fmc treated
Hokzuh & then seemed to have zero remorse and didn’t really mention him again at all. It wasn’t his fault and all he ever did was help her. There was no compassion for his character.

The ending felt terribly sad (I’ve not yet read the trilogy).
I guess I feel this book had such potential but fell flat a bit. I enjoyed parts of it & something about the story felt beautiful, especially the love between the two sisters. The cover art was beautiful.
I have heard the duology is better so am hoping that fill make up for this books flaws.

Im such a mood reader, so if i didn’t already have a long TBR, i actually would have enjoyed it! I just didn’t read it at the right time.

The writing wasn’t as great as it was in Six Crimson Cranes and The Dragons Promise, so it was hard to get submerged into the world & Channari’s story.
