beautiful writing, insane ending…jaw on the floor
dark tense slow-paced

While Armfield’s signature blend of slice-of-life with sci-fi is what drew me back to her work, the tense dynamic among these three sisters would have been enough to carry the novel on its own. I felt like the apocalyptic setting/end was too jarring and detracted from an already compelling premise.
dark emotional

I’ve never read a book like this before, and I don’t know how I feel about it. I enjoyed the dystopian aspect and the relationships between the sisters, but I felt that the ending kinda came out of nowhere.

Good writing, but not enough plot to hang onto for my personal reading preference

hey what

Absolutely fantastic writing, with a brilliant framing, narrative voice and eerily realistic setting. The sudden genre shift and meta textual awareness at the end felt a bit sudden, on the nose, and underdeveloped, but Armfield's writing sings and it was a pleasure to be immersed in this watery climate disaster.
