I wanted to start out the year strong with a book I knew would stick with me, and I’m glad I chose this collection. Written by YA authors who were frustrated after the election of head Cheeto, each one focuses on issues that are even more prescient in the US now - as the synopsis says, “topics related to growing up female in today’s America, and the intersection with race, religion, and ethnicity.” Featuring some of my favorite YA authors, each essay stands out, and it’s a beautiful call to action against the injustices we live with. I wish I could hand this to every teen girl in high school.

While I didn't find all the stories to be perfect, this is such a cohesive collection and I cannot wait to introduce it to everyone.

Enjoyed some stories more than others, but this is a solid anthology of women telling stories of formative experiences.

It is difficult to read these stories and not end up depressed because of all the bad things that happen to people. Throughout the book I tried to remember what the forward said - that these are stories of hope and strength and survival.

An anthology of 21 essays written by prominent Young Adult (YA) novelists with topics on feminism, equality, racism, rape, transphobia, Islamaphobia and other topics. Authors wrote essays post 2016 presidential election.

The essays in this book are heavy and absolutely 100% should be read.

I’ve been struggling to express my feelings about our current social and political climate, and this book really helped me in my search to find a way to share my thoughts and develop my voice.

Heed the warnings but this essay collection is wonderful. Different perspectives through different lives experiences from excellent writers. Strongly recommend for educators and their students.

Really good! This is definitely a must-read for readers looking for diverse female stories.

A great collection of essays from a very diverse group of women on growing up female in America. I felt so inspired while reading their work and I grasped a great deal of knowledge on the importance of my voice and how to use it.
