Questo libro mi è sembrato più a metà tra un autobiografia, con tratti addirittura simili ad un romanzo storico, e testo scientifico sui draghi. E devo ammettere che questa cosa mi stava piacendo un sacco, anche per gli argomenti trattati riguarda alla posizione della donna in questa società fittizia, e la voglia di emancipazione della protagonista.
Purtroppo però verso la fine dell'opera il focus scientifico viene meno e l'opera prende una direzione inaspettata che non mi ha convinto per nulla, soprattutto perché non mi sembra collegata al resto dell'opera in maniera organica.
Mi sarebbe piaciuto invece leggere di più riguardo al suo studio scientifico dei draghi anche verso il finale dell'opera, perché questo taglio mi stava piacendo tantissimo, ma purtroppo non si può aver tutto dalla vita.

The biggest praise I have for this book is the idea behind the book, which I found very interesting and new, but found it was badly carried out.
I loved the first half of the book, while not being an exceptional read I wanted to read more and was thoroughly invested in the characters. However, the story starts losing focus towards the end and I found the ending tedious and almost ridiculous. The turn of events at the end felt forced and lazy and I felt betrayed for this choice.
The end is lacking also regarding the writing. There are several instances where the author could have simply showed things, but chose to state the obvious on more than one occasion. I condoned this as the main character being a "know-it-all" and taking for stupid her readers. Thus a character flaw. However, this method did not fit well to the end, which is supposed to be action and tense packed, but ended up drowning the story.
I would still be interested in reading the other books if they happen my way.

It was quite interesting and as much as I didn't plan on reading more of this series, the ending changed my mind.

I didn't fall in love with this book; I didn't have the emotional capacity for that after my most recent beauuuuutiful read (She Would Be King by Wayétu Moore). I'm not committed to reading the rest of the books in its series; that's wasn't the point of this read for me. It was more of a rebound read to get me over the emotional slump ending my relationship with She Would Be King put me in.
I enjoyed this story, though. It was a nice, fantastical read about a girl who dreams outside of gender roles and figures out how to work the system of sexism to be seen in all her intelligent and scrappy glory. It also had a bit of a mystery element in it! And dragons!
As far as rebound books go, this was a great one. 5 dragons, for sure: 🐉🐉🐉🐉🐉 But in the overall scale of bookish awesomeness, I'd give it probably 3.5 stars. 🤷🏻♀️

This book is not about dragons; the protagonist is on an expedition to study dragons in their natural habitat and the main plot focuses on discovering why the dragons are attacking people. There are not prominent dragon characters in this book, nor is it an action/fantasy. If you are looking for a mystery story with a focus on scientific study and political intrigue, then I'd recommend this book--if you want action/fantasy/adventure, perhaps not.
