Joe Bishop wakes up to an alien force 'invading' the Earth. Another alien species, the Kristang, come in to "assist" earth in getting rid of these attackers. Earth thinks it gained an ally but it's wrong. The Kristang have other plans but first they need Joe and a large number of special forces (army, navy, marines, etc) from around the world to work on a far away planet under the premise of striking back at those attackers. Joe realises something is very, very wrong with the mission and decides to fight back with a little help from an alien friend. I both read and listened to the audiobook and it was a win win. Joe has to make everything up as he goes along and Skippy just makes this book 10x better, 'he' is snarky, funny, and witty. Between Joe leaving Earth and being imprisoned by the Kristang, it was a lot of filler and I put the book down quite a few times because of it but after that it was full speed ahead. I really enjoyed this book and although at this point series are becoming annoying, I'm definitely looking out for book 2.

This is such a good book. I have to admit, it was very slow for quite some time, but once Skippy joined the story it took off.

It felt somewhat like a book written by a man for men. Also usual self published probs with editing and also layout for a physical book (Amazon must charge per page). Not awful though, just noticeable.

That said there were some good points that I enjoyed, and I'll at least give book two a read.
