I mean it’s above the average romance Webtoon, but not by much. But it’s my favorite combination of tropes, so I enjoyed it a lot. Of course, there’s also some strange use of gender roles that left me a bit uncomfortable
I mainly only read this for the romantic scenes lolz. Blinding and Amon are so devoted to each other and Amin’s possessiveness is so cute. I love myself a yandere. Blinding is a great protagonist - levelheaded and badass and smart and kind.
This series is also really furry. Some of the scenes when he’s in leopard form I just—
Anyways, the plot apart from the romance could have been interesting, but wasn’t executed in a compelling way. The climax and the last 15 chapters were honestly underwhelming. I just wanted to get back to my wholesome romance.

My Gently Raised Beast follows the story of Blondina Ryun Ates, the illegitimate daughter of a king set in a fantasy kingdom that is only named once in the entire series. And once seems to be enough as neither this kingdom nor the setting of the story ever gets expanded upon or fleshed out.
Blondina and her mother faced a rough life, with both of them abandoned by the king and Blondina forced to work at a young age following her mother’s untimely death. However, Blondina is found by the king and extracted from the life she lived and brought into the royal palace.
With such a simple premise following a trend of stories in which the main character discovers that she’s the daughter of a rich man, My Gently Raised Beast has qualities that should set it apart from other stories with a similar premise…right?
No.
Sure, My Gently Raised Beast does try to be different by giving Blondina not one, but two half-siblings who despise her very existence—Adellai and Lart—and a non-human love interest in the form of Amon. The story fails spectacular to carve out a niche in an oversaturated market and genre.
My Gently Raised Beast is a story that shows a thin plot and beautiful art isn’t enough to make a great, captivating story.
There’s so much wrong with this story that it feels nearly cruel to give it a rating of 0 stars. (I may be a realist but I’m not evil). I just want to say that I’m confused by other reviews to seem to indicate that this story has a diverse wealth of characters in it. It does not. The series has a handful of characters that appear throughout the course of the story, but of those characters very few of them could be argued to be diverse as they’re the only non-human characters that appear.
Nothing about them is truly diverse, they’re given similar design characteristics (beautiful and skinny) and the same handful of personality traits that they can pluck out of a bag. Don’t hope that these characters will gain new personality traits or individual growth beyond what they already have, because every single character in My Gently Raised Beast remains static from beginning to end except for some of them discovering the capacity to love!
But this is indicative of one of My Gently Raised Beast’s problems. The fact that none of the wealth of characters that exist are fleshed out beyond the one or two personality traits that they have. This is especially true of the lead, Blondina, whose personality traits and main aspirations seem to bounce between believing that talking is an effective way of solving many of the major issues that come up through the series or her focusing on her love for Amon.
This is my greatest issue with the series, that Blondina’s agency is stripped away from her and largely nonexistent from the beginning to the end of the story. When My Gently Raised Beast introduces the plotline of Blondina realizing that she’s the reincarnation of a founding Goddess , I expected that to be a moment where Blondina experiences a modicum of actual character growth. That doesn’t happen, instead Blondina’s agency remains stripped. She remains a permanent damsel in distress whose safety and agency is squarely hinged upon the men in her life. Blondina doesn’t become a character that recognizes her own strengths and utilizes them to take down the main antagonist, instead she’s reduced to this character who barely serves as the protagonist to her own story, she doesn’t grow into the magical powers she possess (which are barely hinted at and never explored). But instead is reduced to a side character who only exists for a weak romance plot.
Weak is an apt adjective that describes much of My Gently Raised Beast. The story is weak, the characters are weakly thought out, and the consequences of actions that many of the characters face are so weak that it feels insulting to the reader’s intelligence. Characters rarely face adequate consequences for their actions, they’re given fantasy appropriate slaps on the wrists. The king mistreats his daughter and abandons her in favor of his highborn children, puts the idea in Adellai’s head to control and subjugate the beast clan? Apologizes and just abdicates the throne.
Nothing in My Gently Raised Beast is done well, not from the characters to the world building to the actual plot itself. It attempts to market itself as a series with some stakes in it, but it is as toothless as a defanged baby kitten, which I suppose is accurate given the title of the series.
