this volume left an indelible mark on me. it marks a significant point where the narrative undergoes a jarring metamorphosis into the darker realm. with every preceding volume, i question the depths of this series' bleakness, yet it consistently manages to surpass all expectations in its unyielding strangeness. i feel so sorry for Rei, being on the precipice of self-discovery and meeting a tragic fate.

moreover, the "romance" between Kaoru and Shinji is seen so lightly despite its despairing depth. it's an exploration of yearning and loneliness. Kaoru, despite being an 'angel'—an entity typically revered as being superior to humanity—harbors envy for Rei, thereby revealing the irony behind his character. he represents a longing for the very emotions that come naturally to the flawed human existence; to him, these emotions are akin to divinity.

Feel like ive been hit by a truck. They went insane with this one. By all the rei stuff, ritsuko's mommy issues and inherited trauma, and than kaworu's twink antics.

Also kind of obsessed with this mangas exploration of love? Going from a pure love, to a new love, and obsessive love. Im wondering how theu gonna wrap all this up bc its the 11th hour man! And we only have like 4 volumes left!
