My childhood favourite by an all time children's fav author. I have read and reread this book when I grew up. Every child should give this a try.

I loved the Adventure books when I was little. Long enough, exciting enough, interesting enough... and now... well... Enid Blyton writes well enough. But her attitudes... oy vey.
All the villains are ugly and foreign, all the females are pretty much not good for anything, and everything else is as prejudiced and stereotypical as one can imagine.

Everytime I picked it up, my first thought was "God, everything about it is just so BRITISH. The dialogue, the writing, all of it.
It did have a slow start, but picked up later on.
Overall it was a good read.

This pandemic has forced most of us into our proverbial comfort zones. Some are re watching friends. Others are turning to reread Harry Potter or LOTR. I decided to crawl into the arms of Enid Blyton and see if her books could hold me captive like they did years ago when I was 12. Turns out they could.
This book has an abandoned castle, picnic baskets, hidden passages, curious children, a hilarious parrot and a thunderstorm. It has all the ingredients of a perfect page turning adventure.
