This is lacking a little in depth, with most of the selections coming in under a page or two, but, still, this makes for a very fast read and the breadth and quantity of selections from across Marx's work makes this a very accessible and comprehensive (if a bit bullet-point-y) introduction to his thought.

This is a brilliant introduction, practically unrivalled from what else I have seen, to Marx’s general thought; not only for sociology (which is of course it’s intention) but also for understanding the fundamentals of the Marxist orientation (hehe) on economic and existential issues too. Rubel and Bottomore have chosen fantastic extracts from an incredibly diverse and wide range of Marx’s works to fulfil the reader on the most intricate matters. I would highly recommend this to anyone, from beginner to well-read on Marx, who wants a more appreciative understanding of his philosophy.

while i do not regret reading this book, it did teach me that i am not the biggest fan of reading about philosophy. this is my first marx book - weird choice for the first, but i feel like i have a better understanding. the best part is that i bought this book used, so there were a bunch of things underlined and written in the margins :,)
