This book and its characters grew on me. I wasn't expecting anything, especially after reading the first eight chapters but then this fantasy world had me invested.
I really enjoyed Naomi's writing especially the dialogues and inner monologues. I hate monologues and it is a big thing for me that for the first time, I am enjoying them.
The character development for both Viper and Gemma was done well. Viper's character was so unique and such a relief. Man is straightforward and brutally honest, not to mention an obsessed grump. I'm beginning to think he might be an INTJ.
As for Gemma, I didn't like her much. Her chemistry with Viper was not even there and a number of times she tries to manipulate him but the good thing is she realizes it.
I'm assuming this is the kind of book that you understand better as you progress in the series. An alien species with open primal instincts yet owners of advanced tech and humans who don't even realize they exist, make the perfect recipe of characters who will take time to understand each other. And boy, am I gripped and so ready to unravel it with them.

This was actually enjoyable.

I've seen a few reviews about the alpha male 'ooo she's mine' red flags that Vruksha gives off and his disregard for Gemma's consent. Those aren't completely wrong, but what makes it less of an issue for me personally is that it fits exactly with who and what Vruksha is. From a human perspective, the way he acts and how possessive he is of Gemma isn't at all acceptable. He's not human though. He's a Naga, and for his kind how he acts seems to simply be part of their nature. The creature design of the Nagas and the way Earth is changed was a huge interest for me while reading this. If you go into this with a 'normal human' mindset, some of what's in this book may be an issue for you. But, if you go in understanding that this is a post-apocalyptic Earth, with non-human snake people that are very primal in their nature(basically that this is a monsterfucker bodice ripper), then you should be just fine.

The book does a good job of giving us a full story for the two main characters, while also giving us a glance into other characters and tempting us with hints at behind the scenes things going on (like the other humans on Earth, the one's on the ship, and the Lurkers). The writing isn't the best, but I wasn't really expecting it to be anything special, considering this is basically a monsterfucker short book. Despite the generic writing, casual mistakes in grammar and such, this wasn't horribly written. I'm genuinely excited for the next book and to learn more about the Naga, the humans remaining, and how the Lurkers are all connected.

I’ve been needing a monster romance lately and kept DNF-ing everything I opened because they just weren’t hitting *right*, but this one - which has been on my TBR forever, hit perfectly! The world is so cool - dystopian in a way, since it’s long after the end of Earth. Reminds me a little of the show The 100 where, humans are now trying to return to Earth. On it, though, is  this alien race of half-men half-snake creatures.

I loved the plot and set up. The world. The MFC. The smut was whew! This kept me glued to my screen for the past 48 hrs and I can’t wait to get into Daisy’s book. I think this one is a 4.5 stars for me, only because I hated the FMC until the end. This just hit in almost all the right ways, and learning this author has a large backlist has me interested in checking out her other books.
