came out of this book really wanting to get a snail shed of my own

Viv and Melinda Van Allen a well to do and a seemingly from the outside happy couple, except for the fact that the wife Melinda is known to entertain various men and openly flaunts her affairs in front of Vic who happily turns a blind eye, what could go wrong?! At the beginning it’s all lovely dinner parties, cocktails and revelries but then the cracks form and the complexities of their little arrangement start to show. All is well and good until one of the men is found dead and another one disappears. Of course Viv is suspect número uno with Melinda pointing the finger squarely at her husband. What transpires is a great study in psychology, quietly ominous and the tension builds slowly slowly. I did think the ending was a little of a letdown though..

More 3.5 than 3, but my hands are tied. Gone Girl and Phantom Thread relationship vibes. Bring on the film adaptation.

You can just feel Vic spiraling and desperately struggling to retain his self control. This is some great writing, because we as the reader can totally see how Vic calmly and methodically reaches the conclusions he does. It's cold. It's calculating. And he does everything with faint amusement, while he tries to convince himself that absolutely nothing is wrong.
