This book is mesmerising. Part memoir, part biography, part elegy, mainly a tribute to the wild creatures who share this planet with us. Written with elegance, poetic force and searing honesty, this book will stay with me for a long time.

an extremely well written and profound personal journey filled with amazing insight and personality

Almost no structure but a delight to read anyway if you're interested in falconry at all.

This is a beautifully and simply written book about one woman's struggle with grief and a baby hawk, respectively.
This is a true story and I found her words about mourning to be emotionally stirring. I did not cry, but I could feel her pain.
I am also in love with her baby goshawk.

I didn't know what to expect going into this book, but it was a wonderfully written account of loss and finding your way back and the terrific parallel with the wandering souls of the past. it's an excellent read

A beautiful written book that meanders the paths of grief, the flight patterns of a goshawk, and the reflections on T.H. White. This book was not what I expected at all, but I was pleasantly surprised by the story Helen McDonald wove about her life, Mabel, her father and the writer of the The Once and Future King.

3,5* Quirky but in a charming way. Bit too much about White but right amount about hawking. Probably had higher expectations becaufe of the numerous "book of the year" titles
