More like 3.5 stars. So I guess I'll round up. I didn't like this one as much as The Apple Orchard. The central romance was overshadowed by the World War II flashbacks, the focus on the wedding of the hero and heroine from the previous book, and the introduction of a new female character who has all the signs of being the heroine in the next or future installment in the series. As a result, Isabella and Mac's romance felt condensed into too few pages and I wasn't as engaged in their story. Still pretty good women's fiction/contemporary romance, but just missing a spark somehow.
So the best part of this book was the descriptions of the Archangel and the FOOD. I really liked the heroine and her backstory. I loved her connection with her family and the beekeeping work and Jaime. I wanted to go live there and meet all the female characters.
I didn't feel a connection between her and Mac. I felt like her abuse was dealt with pretty insensitively? Mac basically keeps telling her to get over it. When she finally comes out with it, it's so brief and not explored at all. Also, I skipped all the grandfather's backstory.
SPOILER
And I thought the "Her dad's ALIVE" ending was so dumb and out of nowhere.

Well, this is an enormously pleasant read. You definitely need to read this series in order, though, so make sure you read [b:The Apple Orchard|16074553|The Apple Orchard (Bella Vista Chronicles, #1)|Susan Wiggs|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388276273s/16074553.jpg|18171290] first. Also, the flashbacks to the 40's are a little slow, and I soooorta skimmed them. Looking forward to the next book already!
