This book was entirely predictable except for one thing that didn't appear until the last 20 pages. That one thing could be interesting if it's the subject of another book.
A quick breezy romance set in nearby Sonoma.....what isn't there to like about this reasonably predictable book? I love how it managed to move the characters' stories ahead while really remaining focused on filling in gaps of the past. But it ended leaving me wonder who the next book in the series will focus on....and when it will come out!
The romance was pretty hokey, but I enjoyed the history sprinkled within it.
This has been a great book to have to read on the beach or by the pool. It was light and fluffy yet had a great storyline and held my attention. Susan Wiggs is so descriptive and made me feel like I was in California tasting honey.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series - The Apple Orchard - and this one didn't disappoint. It can easily be read on it's own but if you enjoy it you should definitely go back and read #1. The story of Magnus's war years is heartbreaking but it was good to see the truth of his and Annelise's relationship. The current story of Isabel and Mac was good but paled a little compared to the intensity of the past story. The sensory descriptions are amazing and I can't wait for the 3rd in the series.

2nd book in a series. It could probably be read as a stand alone book. It was slow in the middle of the book, but picked up and had an amazing ending.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first book in the series. I felt it was repetitive at times and the descriptions weren't as great as I had expected. I have never heard of a kiss described as "sexy" and it continued to bother me throughout the book. The WWII history in the novel was a nice addition again and I enjoyed learning more about Magnus' past. But I feel the plot and writing fell flat. Isabel was the character I felt I could relate to most when reading The Apple Orchard, so I had high hopes for this book. But I didn't find her as appealing. I hope the next book in the series is as good as the first, because this was a little disappointing.
