This book came to me highly recommended so I'll admit that my expectations were high. While the book was intriguingly developed and they story with the house well constructed, I think for the most part that I wasn't a fan.

I found it hard to remain engaged and struggled to really follow or care about Johnny's storyline. I would love to know why he got so messed up. Is it that the house is causing him to figuratively venture and explore the dark parts of his house (soul) or is it something else entirely?

The academic stuff was interesting but parts of it were dry.

The multiple layers to the book were so unique and wonderful. I definitely love what he was trying to accomplish and I think he did it very well. I just don't think it was for me. I was expecting something very scary but I feel like I there wasn't enough time with the house, which I considered the scary part.

Overall not for me.

I counted on this book to offer a completely different reading experience, and it delivered. At no point did I know what to expect, to the point that I began to almost fear it. I mean, the sheer sight of it made me uneasy.

It felt special, and haunted, and fun, and I feel a bit madder now than before I started. Will probably read it again.

Took me quite a while to finish this because i kept putting this down and picking it back up. I didn't even know what to expect but this was an all consuming kind of book. I definitely had a few paranoid restless nights. I would absolutely recommend this for anyone that likes to get swallowed up in the world of the book their reading.
