The Best Of: The Unstoppable Wasp #5
1. I have to start by praising the cover. I love Elsa Charretier's art in The Unstoppable Wasp, and her covers are similarly excellent. This cover co-designed with Nicolas Bannister is my favorite so far.
2. Jarvis being a worried dad who just wants Nadine to wear a seatbelt and Nadine being too busy trying to save her friend from the bomb in her head and not having time for seatbelts. Bonus: Ying as the meditator.
3. The way Nadine and Jarvis sass each other. "I hope you're happy that I'm now wearing my sear belt next to the human time bomb." "I am!" God, I love all the Jarvis moments. My list would be all Jarvis moments if I had less self control.
4. Yin's character being more developed with a distinct sense of humor and a weird crush, "Oh! Curt Connors! He's my favorite." "Sorry, bombhead, are you crushing on a lizard man?" "Just his brain. His brain is dreamy. Also, the way you keep reminding me that there's a bomb in my head isn't helping my anxiety." You go, Ying! Crushing on a guy for his brains is good. Also, being open about your anxiety makes me love you even more.
5. Ying making awkward jokes about her and Nadine's past in the Red Room and utterly failing to make anyone laugh because everyone else is stuck on the assassin part. Also, Nadine's so-done face with Ying's joke and trying to tell her that really isn't the way to make friends.
6. Nadine giving more background about her past and the mission to save Ying to the girls of the lab and everyone agreeing to help even though it will be difficult and dangerous. Beautiful girl power moment!
7. Shay's joke and how much Ying loves it while everyone else boos it. "We've got your back, Ying. So don't go-- losing your head. Just joking!" "I though it was funny. Come here."
8. The girls being a team and working on life-saving science and bonding. Oh my god, I love this so much. This is what I need in life. Also, Jarvis desperately trying to keep the lab clean even though it's pointless.
9. Nadine being actually too amazing for this world and sacrificing her freedom and happiness to save Ying by going back to the Red Room. This was supposed to be my carefree series, and now I am experiencing emotions. Damn it!
10. "And if this is the last time I see you all, don't stop inventing. Don't stop being amazing. Keep G.I.R.L. alive."
