I wasn't sure I would like this one as much, because I am very much not a musical person - but I was swept along all the same. And now I really, really want a fire lizard of my own!

A very self indulgent rating as I greatly enjoyed this! Took me by absolute surprise as the prelude had me disinterested at first.

Whilst this isn't trad girl fantasy as it's technically not classed as traditional fantasy, I'd at least dub it as a honorary member. It has all the telltale hallmarks of other beloved clasdics within the genre. The pacing is steady, not too fast nor slow. The writing strong & purposeful.

I'm not sure if this is THE place to dive into Pern on the whole, but this is the beginning of a new story. Due to this, I wouldn't say previous knowledge of the series is required. Anyone else can easily start here as I did!

This is a low stakes, coming if age fantasy with dragons small and big. It reads almost like a fairytale. Overall a wonderful short read!

I have yet to read an Anne McCaffrey book I don't love.

I saw this book at the library, and grabbed it because I remember it fondly from childhood.
Now: meh. There's a little too much "simply can't be done because you're a girl." It feels old fashioned for something that is technically sci-fi.

This book started out really slow for me but finally picked up, unfortunately just when it was about to end. Still a sweet little book about dragons with a feminist flare.
