Oh my, I wish I got my hands on this delightfull series 10 to 15 years ago already. When I first fell in love with Pern and gave me a shelter for all the things in the world I couldn't handle. It would have been such a comfort for me than, while now I Just enjoy this part of the world I never knew the specifics of Just general idea and love seeing new and old people and places of a place dear to my heart.

Absolutely lovely coming-of-age story. Watching Menolly grow in confidence and awareness was a real treat. A few times her meekness drove me a little crazy, but I can't disagree that she made a compelling character. In fact, a few passages did bring me to tears. Further, as I read this book 40 years after it was first published, her overwhelming meekness may have been less outstanding then. I also really loved spending so much time in the company of Master Robinton.

This is an interesting world that I don’t fully understand, but maybe will after I finish the series. Mellony is not a strong character, but I’m hoping she’ll grow as the series continues. The fire lizards seem cute and interesting.
