Wonderfully entertaining
This was a truly enjoyable and enchanting story following Menolly, a young girl who has dreams of becoming a harper.
Her father and mother, the hold master and mistress, however, have the misguided belief that a girl hasn't any right to such a position and attempt to stop Menolly, though not in a malicious way, from achieving her dream.
Menolly is wonderfully written and I found myself routing for her from the start.

Oh, man. This book was even better than I remembered. Tight writing, pulled heartstrings, dreamy fantasy, sharp imagery, excellent world-building, and a plot that pulls you along to get to the joyous end - what could be better?
