Interesting book about beginnings, renewal, family, community, and love. A bit hard for me to get into but th narrator's voice is really engaging and by about halfway through I was sold.

this book is somewhere between 3 and 3.5 stars for me. i thought the first half was a bit slow and dull whereas the second half was intriguing and everything and everyone tied together and i started being more interested in the characters. i would say i overall enjoyed it and that i am glad i read one of auster’s works but whether i’ll read another one of his books .. idk
A nice story about an uncle and nephew who live quiet and boring lives until one day fate brings them together…

it took me forever to read this even though the writing style is light and amusing. however the plot wasn't very interesting to me in the beginning and the fact that this book was written by a cishet man is very obvious at times. especially the way the "bpm" and tina hott were described annoyed me so much although I know this book is already twenty years old and I do see that the author tried to draw attention to a lot of important topics.
towards the end the story got more interesting to me (maybe because there were more complexe female characters then) and i did enjoy reading the book at most times but i wouldn't really recommend it due to the transphobic, homophobic and sexist undertones.

Give me a story about some lonely people creating their own little loving community and I will eat that shit up repeatedly

I read this because I've heard so many great things about Paul Auster, and because it was a dollar a library book sale.
I got so bored in the first few chapters that I put it back down. This is now the second Auster book that I've done this with. Maybe he's just not for me.
