'Reading was my escape and my comfort, my consolation, my stimulant of choice: reading for the pure pleasure of it, for the beautiful stillness that surrounds you when you hear an author's words reverberating in your head.'

I had so much more fun reading this book than I thought.

Perfect storytelling, just the right amount of absurd.

I am not familiar enough with the author to really say he sold out on this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the detail and build up of the novel, but was incredibly disappointed with the ending, and how it was brought to a close

Cheap, convenient story. Except for the bad situations that the main characters find themselves in at the beginning of the book, things just go up and up for them

Really enjoyed this. I love me a coming of age story with nuanced family relationships. Also love the NYC setting… made me emotional

The Brooklyn Follies calls to mind Auster's early works. Back to New York, and loneliness, a bit of detective work, and a healthy dash of coincidence. It's one of those works that makes me wonder if I'm actually smart enough to read Auster (but I guess that's the case with most of his works).

I enjoyed this book - it's a quick read, and I used to live just around the corner from where much of it takes place, so it was easy to picture in my head and therefore felt authentic. I think it's also a really fun portrait of the modern family, built out of friends and relatives.

A ripping yarn, very readable, with characters that will stay with me for some time I think.

Mon premier, mais clairement pas mon dernier Paul Auster !

Decent book but I wish l liked it more. Rather dull storyline, though the characters were very well built.
Quick and easy read.
