Fred Rogers is a childhood hero of mine, and though I grew up to not be a parent or involved in the lives of children, I try my best to carry his drive for kindness into the adult world, where we often seem to forget it.
I found this book was equally about the birth of television and of his shows, as it was about himself. I didn’t care much about the technical history of tv or broadcasting or all the very very many people that helped make Mr. Rogers the neighbor we all needed growing up. I was much more curious about him as a person, and I found that I had to search to find that in this story. Maybe Rogers just cannot be separated from the story of educational television.
If you like kids, and the history of tv shows and are curious about Mr. Rogers, I think it’s a worthwhile read, but if you’re looking for more about the person of Fred Rogers, well I think it is likely that he kept that a gift more for those who got the privilege of knowing him alive and well.
Overall I think it’s a well done and thorough biography , though I did find the writing a bit dragging and dry.

What a drag. This book is overly long due to its repetitive nature. Sorry the author didn't know how to go about writing your biography Mr. Rogers! You deserved better.

The only thing that really saved this for me was the fact that LeVar Burton narrated the audiobook. 3 stars for that and well, Mr. Rogers. There was no need for this to be 14 hours long. It is ridiculously repetitive and generally not well written. Too bad.

Loved the content, but didn't love the writing style - very repetitive and could have been organized better. But loved learning about Fred Rogers.

Wasn't my thing.
