I just finished reading this, and appropriately, Google Doodle is about Fred Rogers today. There will never be another person like Mr. Rogers. We should all strive to be as calm, peaceful, and genuine as he was. This book was fantastic.
Beautiful
This was a great look into Mister Rogers life. It took some time to read it thoroughly, but well worth it. The early years were so interesting leading up to the show we all love.

Five stars for content and the fact that it was well researched. One star for how dense and repetitive it was. Why were there no editors?
A superb biography. Really enjoyed the writing style of King - he let the the words of Rogers and the man he was shine through without letting too much biographical narrative get in the way. A great read. If we adopted half of Rogers' principles in how we related to one another and to ourselves, we would be better for it.
Wonderful audio book, however it was so repetitive that I got bored during several parts. I just recently saw the movie so perhaps that’s why I had a tough time staying engaged. Fred Rogers was truly an amazing man.
Emotional, fascinating biography. Some concern the author was biased, as he was friends with Fred Rogers. The writer also glossed over things that are touched on in the documentary film such as his episodes on the Vietnam War, segregation, and other activist episodes.
I love Mr Rogers and love a good biography but this one is so slow. Maybe that's because Mr. Rogers was just too good and too wholesome. I couldn't finish this book.
Mr. Rogers is easily among my top five favorite humans (excluding relatives), so it pains me to do this, but I can't finish this book. I made it to page 90, but it's just tedious. The text is disorganized and repetitive, tossing in unrelated details at random points, bringing up events without explaining why they matter, and listing facts but failing to capture any kind of nuanced narrative. It reads more like an eighth grader's history report in some places than a professionally edited piece of writing. The author clearly did his research, but somebody needed to get a better editor on the job. I loved the documentary about Mr. Rogers that came out a few years ago, and was looking forward to a book that could really do him justice, but this ain't it.
I almost find it hard to believe that this man had zero faults, was nothing but a role model, and a paragon of generosity his whole life. But that's what this 400+ page book was about. He was filthy rich, but never let it show, he was humble, kind, loved kids, was soft spoken, and never gave in to the temptation to market products on his show to children. If you are looking for a juicy, gossipy book...You will find nothing here.
It's an okay book, but I threw another star in there because LeVar Burton read it to me, and he just makes me happy.
