The content of this book was wonderful - Mr. Rogers was truly a beacon of light in this world. However, the structure of the writing was stilted or awkward at times; you can tell the author’s primary vocation is not that of author.
funny informative inspiring lighthearted slow-paced

DNF @ 26%. Too dry for my taste.

Loved it.

The audio version is read by LeVar Burton AND it's available on Hoopla. Sadly, I'm putting this one aside for now. It's been a hard year mentally for me with audiobooks (I can't seem to focus on them), and I wanted this one to be effortless, but I can't seem to catch any narrative arc; it feels sort of like a repetitive list. Also (and I feel sacrilegious saying this), but I feel a tonal mismatch between LeVar's peppy delivery (which makes for the best Reading Rainbow memories! My heart!) and the calm and slowness I associate with Mister Rogers. Might just be the wrong format or the wrong time for me.

I saw the doc Won't You Be My Neighbor and was bohooing with the rest of the audience. I saw this book on someone’s goodreads feed, so had to check it out. I got the audio book for a trip.... LeVar Burton...yay! That said, it was a little offputting to have Mr Reading Rainbow do voices for a bio....Really unnecessary. Also, the book itself could really have used an editor. Lots of repeated info and filler.

The subject deserves a five star bio.

This book is the story of my favorite childhood TV host (Fred Rogers) read to me in the soothing tones of one of my other favorite TV hosts (LeVar Burton). It was literally the most calming thing I might ever have listened to.

Mr Rogers was a wonderful man and I'm glad I listened to his story.

Good and bad. I loved reading about Fred Rogers and his life and the legacy he created. However, at times it got a little ‘research paper-esque’ and that wasn’t as fun.

For any of us that grew up watching or even living through his television show to read some of the behind the scenes was really fascinating. The man was what he showed on television in real life. Caring, sincere, unselfish, and a staunch advocate for child development. Letting children of all races and economic backgrounds know that they are loved for just the way they are.

I wonder how he’d feel in the world today.

I loved it. I found it fascinating and I was so impressed by the forethought Fred Rogers put forth in his work, partnering with the child development center. Perhaps it really appealed to me both as a parent and my professional interest as well.
