“You must try to remember what is it like to be a child”

What is there to say … we need Mr Rogers now more than

I wanted to love this book, but I think the most I can say is that I appreciate its goals. King has been close to Rogers’ life, and the level of care is evident. However, I found myself having to listen to the audiobook at increased speeds just to make it through. It mainly suffers from trying to treat all of the details of Rogers’ life with the same level of importance, and this encyclopedic effort left me feeling exhausted before I could even get to the more touching parts of the story in the latter half of the book. I have to give LeVar Burton credit, though, because his narration breathes some life into the slower sections.

If you want to know more about Mr. Rogers, start with the documentary ‘Won’t You Be My Neighbor,’ rewatch the show, and then see if you find yourself wanting to know lengthy information about Rogers’ upbringing, his boyhood, his family, his studies, etc. before taking on the book.

I really enjoyed this. I'd always wondered about Mr. Rogers and how he came about doing the show. I grew up on it even though I watched it in the 90s and early 2000s. Wonderful, wonderful book!

At a time when we need Mr. Rogers the most, I found this biography and listened to the audio. Narrated by Levar Burton, it tells the life story of America’s Favorite Neighbor.
