I'm not used to reading biographies but the structure felt light on narrative and heavy on eulogizing by friends and recaps of the TV show. The second half was a struggle to get to since the chronology isn't perfectly linear in a way that compells the reader to find the next chapter.

I am too young to have any strong memory of Mr. Rodgers but I do have faint memories of his face, voice, and certainly his theme song to his show. Listening to this book made me appreciate his legacy even more and the man behind the screen. He clearly valued his work and how he interacted with children and adults outside of the show. I've recently grown an interest in Mr. Rodgers after seeing the movie that just recently came out with Tom Hanks.
This was a very well written book on his life.

this book was tough to get through with all the crying i did, but i did it. it’s funny how i remember locking myself in the bathroom as a child when i had learned about his death, and now 20ish years later, im crying over him again. i can’t express how delightful this was to read. how i miss this wonderful man.
Overall, I enjoyed getting a detailed look at this beloved popular culture icon of children’s educational programming. He was truly a pioneer and to learn more about his life and work was very enjoyable. As biographies go this is a thorough one. However, At times it tended to drone on and at others get repetitive. If you are looking for a detailed biography of Fred Rogers - one that makes you nostalgic, recalls childhood memories and reinvigorates your belief that there are those who are as good as they seem, then this is the book for you.
This book was informative, emotional, moving, and inspirational. I cannot recommend it enough to anyone who grew up watching Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood or who works with or parents small children.
I listened to the audiobook, which is narrated by LeVar Burton. It was one long, grownup version of Reading Rainbow all about Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, and it was perfect.

I may return to this one day, but not for me at this moment. While I loved Mister Rogers as a child, I’m not sure he is a controversial enough person to justify a 400+ page biography.
