i didn't quite enjoy this as much as the 'the girl from the other side' manga though nagabe's art style is as lovely as always. i found it problematic that multiple characters in these love stories were young children who were infatuated with animals/creatures that appeared to be far older than them. i think the goal with this collection was to stretch the concept of love and portray it very liberally. i didn't mind that romantic love between humans and animals that can talk was explored but the human character was actually a child in some cases. to me, it didn't seem appropriate to explore any emotional or physical intimacy between a human child and an animal that reads as a fully grown adult.
moreover, in one case, the animal helped raise the human child and was basically a parental figure for the child...except they both fell in love with each other after a period of time.

aside from those qualms, the stories were also fairly underdeveloped. the characterisation skimmed the surface since each short story was only a handful of pages. it probably would've been better to have 3 stories with more substance (or even worldbuilding) to them.

that said, there were a few sweet and heartwarming stories such as the one about the blind girl and the monster in the woods. the artwork was of course the highlight in these stories. also, some of the dialogue in the stories about romantic love resonated with me even though i wasn't a fan of the context they were uttered in.

i wasn’t quite a fan of the age differences, and the species stuff was a bit odd too… the messages are nice and all but they could do without the odd and even creepy stuff….

This is series of short stories and I especially like the vampire one. The art is really good some stories are better than others, but this does read kind of creepy. Just some of these stories have a monster "adult" and a young girl...nothing happens but it just has a uncomfortable vibe. Similar to [b:The Wize Wize Beasts of the Wizarding Wizdoms|43684714|The Wize Wize Beasts of the Wizarding Wizdoms|Nagabe|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1607110793l/43684714._SX50_.jpg|67966072]

I really really really hope this isn't going to become the vibe for "Girl on the Other Side"

Fantastic series of short stories by the author of [b:The Girl from the Other Side: Siúil, A Rún, Vol. 1|30139736|The Girl from the Other Side Siúil, A Rún, Vol. 1 (The Girl from the Other Side, #1)|Nagabe|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1485927892l/30139736._SX50_.jpg|50573607] which I also loved.

I guess I should mention that one of the stories was kinda weird and I didn't care for. 'The Wolf-Man and the Girl-Wolf' could be seen as child grooming and it was unsettling but the lion one I think was innocent enough; I think they have a partners-in-crime friendly love. I do think some people were reading too deeply into it, especially if you haven't read some of his other works. I think Nagabe is just kinda a weird dude and his storytelling didn't translate well.

Overall, I personally liked all the stories (with the one exception) and enjoyed the collection!
