Thank you Penguin Group Putnam and NetGalley for the e-ARC of the book.
The book begins with Janie and Max, the new parents of a beautiful baby Freya. Janie is struggling with postpartum and motherhood so when Max offers her to sleep in one night she agrees. But she is woken up by screams of her baby and Max is nowhere to be found. Later the police comes in with questions and Janie finds out that Max is suspect in murder and kidnapping.
This book touches a lot of topics - postpartum, motherhood, trust in your partner, secrets we keep. I enjoyed the story but something was missing for me.

I enjoyed this book by a new author for me. The story was great and the action was pretty good as well, however I did not like the constant snipping at motherhood which the author kept banging on about. Apart from that the book was fine.
This was so slow at first. The MFC is a new mom and struggling with PPD (which I do relate to) but it just felt so repetitive and I didn’t want to keep reading. Like, how long was it going to take to get to the point of the story and what happened to her husband/his secrets?

Janie is a new mother who is struggling to bond with her baby. She tells her partner Max that she resents the baby and the next day, he disappears without a trace. Then, the police show up mentioning someone was murdered and he needs to make a witness statement. Janie is understandably freaked out. From there, the mystery unwinds.
This book was interesting and kept me turning the pages. I will say that as more was revealed, I wasn’t exactly sure who killed Grace, and there were parts I definitely thought the best friend was in on it. A couple of twists at the end make this an interesting book, though I’m not sure the sexual assault was necessary in a book with so much violence and abuse already.
I’d recommend this one for a quick read and page turner. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
