A hilarious and often poignant look at the world of the disgruntled academic, through a series of increasingly neurotic and self-serving letters of recommendation.
Told in the form of 'recommendation letters', this format works. Jason Fitger is an English professor at a small liberal arts college in the midwest. His brutal honesty and all too frequent decision to include 'too much information' in any of his correspondence turns an annoying personality trait into something humorous.
It took a few letters to get the feel for the story but once you do, you want to keep reading to find out if his leaky window gets fixed or if his protege is accepted to the Seminar. A funny, pleasant read.

Clever. Laugh out loud funny. and with great word choices (although I was glad to read on Kindle with built in dictionary): strabismic, abnegation, dybbuks, mephitic, yclept... why use a quotidian word if there is a recherche word that will do?
3.5! A fun read. I look forward to checking out the sequel.
I did not finish it - not funny or otherwise engaging. I work at a University, but not in the English Department, and I thought this mediocre professor was trying too hard to be clever and was really just whiny and unprofessional.
Well written. I gained a new respect for my professors upon reading this book. This will be a short read but definitely worth it. Be warned, Schumacher uses some advanced vocabulary, it greatly adds to the artistry of the book, it may prove difficult to understand. I kept my Merriam-Webster dictionary at hand while reading. Good luck with the vocab, highly recommended.
