This was a very difficult book to read because of the violent and graphic subject matter as well as the extremely academic and jargon filled language. There is a lot of important theory and arguments being made. I just wish that Stanley wrote in a more clear and concise manner. That's more a critique of academic writing than Stanley specifically though.
With that said, some of theory that Stanely developed - particularly around suicide and "near life" - has really stuck with me and made me see my experience as a queer/trans person in a new way.
I hope to return to this book again in the future. It's definitely one of those things that you need to return to a few times before you really understand it.
