Robinson Crusoe

It's a bit of a hard read because of the dated racist views, and also because it's not a very dynamic story - a lot of descriptions, enumerations and such, so I was pretty much just scanning it most of the time. Also, Robinson himself is an awful character. However, as I read this as a literature student, I can see how it is a huge milestone for literature. I would not particularly recommend it to everyone.

dnf’d it after like 60 pages. i don’t like that. at all. never touching any dafoe again. no thanks.

This was a fun, quick read!

I liked the adventure and drama, the way Defoe took something as drastic and made it this simple.

I think the audiobook format made the old language easier to digest, and John Lee narrated the story well. The story itself is fine; Crusoe indeed seemed to be a very fortunate man not only in his ability to survive on an island for nearly 30 years, but also in being able to recover his estate afterwards. I was also amused by how he fashioned his island as a kingdom and by his thoughts on religion.

I think I just don't care about books about boats.

Woof! I'll admit I was expecting a bit more adventure and excitement and a bit less farming and religious philosophy but I still enjoyed it.

Lol what?

I have this problem where I judge classics by modern standards. It doesn't just apply to literature either. This book, while it was important in its day, is a difficult read now because of the amount of time the author spends on certain inconsequential details. As a whole, the book is enjoyable, but certain aspects of it bothered me.
adventurous inspiring sad slow-paced

I was surprised by how much I did not enjoy this. Sean loves the whole idea of being a castaway, and we stuck with it, but yikes, dated and offensive at times.
