Hilarious. I was losing it when
SpoilerMr. Davy and his friends were pretending to be Captain Manners' uncouth army friends to put off his fiancee.

Still enjoying these sweet, absolutely improbable, little confections. Loved the forged invitation scenario with Prinny and the courtship of Mary the maid. Last one coming up!

I love this fun regency era series! This second-to-last book in the series was just as delightful and humourous as all the others have been.

The story once again follows the escapades of the members of the Poor Relations as they attempt to run the hotel that has allowed the group of misfits to thrive in spite of society's silly rules designed to punish those without money.

Another infusion of "new blood" at the hotel this time comes by way of a young lady running away from home to avoid a forced marriage to a man she's never even met to allow her father to get out of debt.

This book, as with all the others puts the individual quirks and habits of the members of the Poor Relations on entertaining display. Each of the main characters are endearing in their own way, and the interactions between all of them is just wonderful good fun!

This series is a treat for those who enjoy the Regency period, unique "characters", and farcical situation designed to bring on laugh after laugh. All the books in this series is highly recommended as a wonderful fast, light read guaranteed to entertain!

Colonel Sandhurst great in this book (although not as heavily featured in the story as the title implies). Still, I loved the "kidnapping" scheme the Poor Relations cook up, and the romance between runaway lady Frederica and the dashing Captain Manners (I love some of the names in this series). I actually quite loved the romance that happened between Lord Bewley and chambermaid Mary (whom he mistakes for Frederica), and I'm thrilled that Miss Tonks went after Mr. Davie and brought him back to work for the hotel. Frederica is probably my least favorite of the ladies the hotel has helped to match up, but only because she kept doubting the Poor Relations (well, technically their motives weren't 100% clean, but they were still kind to her and saved her from what would have been a worse fate).

I am both delighted by this series, and devastated that the next book is the last. These are my first M.C. Beaton books, but I hope she has other stories with this much fun and wit and charm!
