I don’t have a ton of feelings about this book upon reflection.
I enjoyed reading it & I think it is an interesting commentary on true crime & the culture that surrounds it.
I’m excited to discuss it with my bookclub because I think it will bring up a lot of interesting conversations.
The thing I found the most interesting is maybe a bit of a spoiler but, I found it interesting that if you isolate Laura’s perspective from Roach’s, it never seems like Roach is doing anything that sinister… if it was just a book about Laura, you would think she is an unreliable narrator

The thing I found the most interesting is maybe a bit of a spoiler but,
Graphic: Alcoholism and Alcohol
Moderate: Blood, Gaslighting, Stalking, Bullying, Death, Death of parent, Murder, and Vomit
This book is meant to make you uncomfortable. I wouldn’t say it glorifies anything, at least not without contradicting it in the next chapter.zoe42's review against another edition

There is not one redeemable quality to Roach - she's just a c*w who is obsessive about people and hates them when they don't like her. I hated how she referred everyone as "normies" and talked negatively about everything.
Laura was just stuck up and stand-offish

❗️(sort of spoiler-y?? it’s not really, but i think it’s best to go into this book with no knowledge of what goes on so don’t read this if you don’t want to know anything!!!!!) ❗️
this book was so (!!) good! once i started reading i could not. put it. down. it was slow-paced at times but instantly gripped me, the dynamics between the characters is one of the things that makes this book so special. these characters, Roach and Laura, are first represented as two completely different people, whose personalities seem to juxtapose each other; i see it as Laura being shown as light and quite happy, and as Roach being shown as dark and lonesome. but their worlds intertwine and this line between light and dark begins to fade, until they get into this wrangled mess of hatred, but also of curiosity, for each other. it has a dual pov as well!! which, as it turns out, i love. and this is alice slater’s debut novel??? amazing. it was such an interesting read, repulsive and morbid, but really, really incredible.
