A feast of a story, in all the best ways.

Whilst fiction can get away with all sorts of dodgy writing if there's enough plot to keep you entertained, non fiction, for me, is entirely reliant on the author's skill. Cloake has skill in spades.

I absolutely adored this gastronomic trip through France and have firmly added Cloake to the 'see book, buy book' list. With a style reminiscent of Bill Bryson's (another on aforementioned list), we are treated to a light hearted adventure through fields, mountains and cities, which could turn even the most ardent Brexiteer into a Francophile. The selection of a classic foods really helps section the book into mini stages, each with it's own recipe.

Notably a warning that your daily snack consumption will increase significantly while reading, as you attempt to replace the unctuous food described with whatever is in the cupboard.

I have now purchased 3 travel books, flirted with quitting my job and harassed my French flatmate on the various transport options around the country (unfortunately my cycling skills would most accurately be described as a catastrophe on two wheels, so that's out).

If you love food, travel, France, cycling or just want to be inspired to get out and do something, read this book.

“One More Croissant for the Road” is a fairly entertaining -though seriously lacking in depth and detail, gastronomic tour round France on two wheels (and occasionally train).

This was definitely a pleasant enough read, with a few fun moments in parts, though as I got more towards the middle/end, the laughs started to dry out and what was left was a rather bland and repetitive read.
