I continue to enjoy making my way through the Slough House series. In REAL TIGERS, we have a member of the Slow Horses being taken captive for some unknown reason. Additionally, those in power are undergoing complex machinations that can't help but go awry.
The main appeal to finishing this book (after having been introduced to the television miniseries) is that all titles going forward will have new-to-me content and plots.

I enjoyed this book. I appreciated spending more time with Katherine Standish, who is a compelling character.

This third full entry in the series follows a similar pattern to those that came before. That could be seen as a good or a bad thing depending on your perspective but I liked this story world, the cast of characters and the format the stories take, so wasn't disappointed that this book basically takes the same formula and applies it to a new scenario.
The Slow Horses are a misfit bunch of spies that have messed up in the past and have been put out to pasture in an obscure office to work on mundane tasks. Only they can't seem to keep away from trouble. It's a silly enough premise but the twist of the spies being somewhat inept rather than flawless heroes gives an interesting twist on a genre that has otherwise been done to death.
This story focussed on the abduction of one of the Slow Horses and how the rest of the team rally to rescue them and the twisty conspiracy they uncover in the process. Fairly standard spy stuff but done with a lightness and a tongue-in-cheek humour that makes it a fun read.

Really entertaining, fast paced could not put it down. I always enjoy this series, the humour and the characters add to the mix. My last star is always, did I learn anything, which this did not do, but I did not expect it to. Pure escapism.
