the audiobook felt less like reading a book and more like going on a journey, experiencing everything as it unfolded. i was worried going into it that the interview format would make the storytelling feel stilted or unnatural, or that everything being told in hindsight would disconnect me from each beat, but it was the absolute opposite. 

the full cast was stellar but not only that, the way information is slowly unveiled and conflicting perspectives are interwoven, it is one of the most emotionally complete narratives i have ever experienced. there is so much detail to it all, the prose is expressive and potent. not only that but what is chosen to be omitted is even more effective—you’re left filling in the blanks to the most satisfying degree. 

a beautifully flawed story about beautiful, flawed people, with the vibrantly compelling backdrop of the 70s music scene. ultimately, it is a story of devotion and love.

I hated the first ~80 pages of this book. And, then, I fell in love.

Somehow, DJ&T6 was both everything and nothing like I had expected it to be. I appreciated it all the more for that.
