It's a well written book, but I felt like something was missing.

Leisa is a mage with the ability to change her appearance, having been raised by the King of Farhall as his daughter's bodyguard. The time has come for the princess to wed, and Leisa takes her form, and travels to the neighboring Kingdom of Garimore as a spy, to get to know the princess's future husband, and to know of their real intentions. This is a dangerous mission because the neighbor king despises mages and because Leisa has no skills at diplomacy and politics. Once she arrives at Garimore, she is separated from her ladies in waiting and her honorific guard, and is placed under the guard of the king’s personal bodyguard, the Raven,a very efficient assassin.

Who is Raven? Can he scent Leisa's magic? How does he appear out of thin air? And why does Leisa feel his presence from the gifted necklace she wears?

Spectacular. Royalcore, spies, the kings mysterious assassin who never speaks nor takes off his mask.
I’ll say it again - INCREDIBLE
I’ve read so many fantasy books at this point and on my journey between pages I’ve never before come across a book with a story or plot quite like this one. The King’s Raven is such an intriguing character I found myself returning to the book wether it was day or night just to find out what happened to him and the mc Leisa was so delightfully crafted and her character had imperfections and flaws which I found brought her to life.
In case you couldn’t already tell - third times the charm - I loved this book.
It has been so long since I’ve had a 5 star books and this was truly a 6 star book
Omw to read the second one now!

Lower side of three stars.

This book was an unexpected dual POV. I hate dual POVs, mostly because the MMCs always go on about the heroines in this forced devoted twittering. This book was no different; I can clearly see the attributes that might make the FMC so ‘special’ so ‘different’. I don’t need it to be spelled out by a MMC over and over again.

another thing that really irks me is MMCs acting against their normal impulses two seconds after meeting the heroine. I never buy it, and it just feels forced. Give them time, set down real motivations for the characters to act the way they do, instead of this mysterious force -they themselves cannot even discern.

No one in this book was a mind reader however, the heroine was able to tell when the MMC -who could neither speak or show any expression through his face covering- was ‘amused’ by her. This was before they became linked. How?! What did she have to go on?! Also, I find it hard to believe, a guy who’s been tormented and enslaved for the past ten years is going to be amused by the trivial things the author would have us believe.

This book wasn’t terribly written it just lacked the sense and spark to be rated any higher than a low three starts. It might even be closer to a 2.75.

This is my first book by this author and I'm hooked! Moving on to book #2 in the series. Can't wait to see where the story goes from here.

Likes: 👍
-Dual POV
-The magic system
-Hidden identities
-Unlikely allies

This was pretty good, I enjoyed the story and even read the next one straight after. What I would call an easy read which is perfect for me when I want my brain to relax after work in the evening.

Boring, third person narration, the story talked itself in circles and there were way too many literary conveniences to make the magic seem plausible.

There is hope after all. I’ve read a ton of duds this year but here is heroine that you can admire. A love interest who is complex but not a douche (I do LOVE a jerky hero but he has to have a hidden heart of gold). Kudos to the author! I will definitely be reading the sequel.
