This book was not it. After many recent dark historical reads I wanted something contemporary and up beat. Though this book was that, it was also cliche, forced, and awkward. Owen had no personality and Zora was one of the most unrealistic people ever conceived. The storyline lacked depth, at one point Skye suggests something to Zora and I thought, here we go the storyline is about to get deep and have another layer, only for it to
never be mentioned again. The author really tried to do something and in no way was it pulled off.

4 stars — I got exactly what I was looking for in this book: a cute YA royalty story, mixed in with a strong black heroine. While just by being a book written by a black woman, containing a black heroine, we got a look at everyday life…but race wasn’t the main issue in the story, it was just a byproduct of the characters.

I am NOTHING like Zora, and you would think that would make her hard to relate to, but I did connect with her. She was so passionate about her community, and helping everyone around her. I LOVED that. I loved the way her mind was always thinking of how she could give new experiences to the kids she sort of mentored. Again, I can’t imagine being like that, but it was fascinating to watch. She was sassy, confident (for the most part), and hard working. And I will admit, through her, I learned quite a few new things (by having to Google some terms). I always appreciate that.

Owen was pretty sweet. He wasn’t a standout or anything, he had a bit of a too good to be true thing going on with him, but for some reason I didn’t mind it. Sometimes you just want an easy love story. I wouldn’t have minded seeing them hang out together a bit more, seeing their connection a bit more…but what are you gonna do?

There were some fun side characters in this one, from Zora’s family and friends, to people in her community, to the other high school students she meets in her program and eventually develops friendships with.

I was looking for something fairly light and easy, but also diverse (and importantly, ownvoices), and that’s exactly what I got.

Truly Madly Royally was like a mash-up of The Princess Diaries, The Prince and me and of course, the story of Harry and Meghan. I loved our protagonist Zora, who was smart, driven, kind and compassionate. Zora falls for our prince charming Owen while she was studying at a prestigious college and the rest is, as they say, history. The romance was way too fast and unbelievable for me. The problem I had was with Owen; he was such an unrelatable character that every scene of him with Zora made me cringe.

Overall, this was a light rom-com which can be enjoyed during the summer or whenever you're looking for a quick read.

I won an ARC of this off of Twitter.

This book left me wanting more....as in I thought the ending was very abrupt and I was shocked that it just ended. Maybe there will be a sequel?

This wasnt your typical normal girl meets prince love story. Zora is a strong, independent woman and her convictions are highlighted in this story and then secondary is her relationship with Prince Owen. I just can't get over the abrupt, less than happily ever after ending.

cute, but otherwise unremarkable.

This was cheesy and cute! A light and fluffy read ! It was great to see a women of colour being the lead in this ya romance ! I am sucker for prince and common girl falling in love ! I would never complain about a sequel .

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I go through phases where I find myself reading books set in certain settings. Sometimes I will read 4 different hockey romances in a month. Some months I will read a group of fantasy books with magic. This month it was all about the royalty. For some reason I found myself reading a lot of books about princes and princess and soon to be kings and queens. And to kick off my royal reading, Truly Madly Royally.

Truly Madly Royally is the story of Zora, a girl that wants to change the world. She finds herself enrolled in a prestigious summer program where she is surrounded by mostly white classmates making it hard for her to fit in. That is until she meets Owen in the library and they immediately click. But what Zora doesn't know is that Owen is an actual prince. Soon everyone is talking about the two of them and it only gets worse when Owen invites Zora to the wedding of his brother. From private person to gossip headlines Zora has to figure out if her feelings for Owen is worth the scrutiny or if she wants to break his royal heart.

Truly Madly Royally was an entertaining, albeit a light read. I immediately felt the Harry and Meghan vibe as soon as Zora and Owen met. I could see where the author possibly got her inspiration and I liked that. I think YA readers will appreciate that too. A 'ripped from the headlines' feel but not in a dramatic way, but in a fun, love story way. Zora is the kind of character that will be relatable to readers. She has a great moral compass and does what she can for her community. (Personally, my favorite part of this book was Zora's best friend and Zora's brother. I totally want a book about the two of them. They had such great chemistry.)

If you are looking for a quick read about royalty, then you should pick up this book for sure.
