This is the first book I have read from Pamela Clare. It is a n epic love story amidst the British, French and Indian War, specifically around the 1750s. Our Hero and Heroine are coming from different worlds such as social status, political issues, religious beliefs, and upbringing. But when love decides to strike, well, we all know that nothing can stop it.

This book is full of passion, Drama and adventure. It was one of those books that kept me reading into the wee hours of the night. Great read!

I'm giving this book favorite status for the exceptional description of colonial North America during the French and Indian war. The way the author writes the adventure scenes especially in the beginning of the book where they are struggling to survive is excellent. The book gives Outlander vibes a bit and I loved it.

4.5 stars if it were possible. I just finished this last night and I have loved it. The characters were absolutely wonderful. I was emotionally invested in their plights from the first.

It doesn't make me want to rush out and read the next one in the series, but it does cement for me (not that I had any doubts) just how seamlessly Pamela Clare goes between writing interesting, suspenseful contemporaries as well as beautiful, gripping historical romances. For me, the ending was a little too pat, too easily resolved, but I was also ready for the book to end so it kind of worked for me. I felt like I travelled the emotional journey with the characters and by the end of the book, was happy to see them well settled.

Thanks to Heather for making this read possible.

Throughly entertaining and gave me everything I enjoy in the genre with low levels of depressing storyline and a solid HEA

DNF. Not my thing. Very fanfictiony. At one point the FMC is woken by an abrupt kiss from the MMC — which was the exactly moment I gave up on the book. That’s something that happens frequently in fanfiction and it just found it so…weird that I couldn’t keep reading.

I was really rooting for it too because I’ve been wanting a romantic version of Last of the Mohicans but this book was just so poorly written that I didn’t want to push through.

Reread: 2/2020

Still 5 stars. I listened to the audiobook and Kaleo Griffith does the narration and he's great, he also does her I-Team series and I think her other historical romance trilogy. Love his narration every time.

I've been wanting to reread this for a couple years now, I think the audiobook used the Berkley edition, which has new material. I don't know what that was since it has been a while since I read the Leisure Book edition.

I'm looking forward to rereading the other two in this trilogy.

Surrender was my first book by Pamela Clare and I am so very happy to have read it. Guys, it was AMAZING!!! This book moved me, it was beautiful and interesting and funny, seriously, if you haven’t already, please read it!

I fell in love with Iain MacKinnon right away, I’ve never loved a character like him. Iain is so perfect…he’s mindful, loyal, caring, strong, courageous, smart, funny, sweet, stubborn… Pamela did an amazing job with him. Annie is so different from Iain, she’s sweet, shy, innocent but also loyal and strong, in her own way. Annie is also very young, I think, she’s eighteen. And I think that Iain is twenty-eight, but I’m not sure because I’m the worst when it comes to guessing characters age.

Anyway, these two characters, who are so very different from each other, they come from a different world, they’re supposed to be enemies, well, they formed the most beautiful couple in history (almost).

Pamela did a wonderful job with the romance. It was unhurried, it felt real, she did not try to make things easier for them, and in the middle of all this, the plot and the story were fantastic. The historical side of the story was great, it was very interesting and new for me and I loved it! Pamela must have done lots of research and just for that, you have my respect. I was never bored, not once, not even when it was mostly talks of war and history and all that, I just love Pamela’s writing style!

Like I said, the romance was great. Iain is perfect on his own but also with Annie and vice versa. They were so understanding with each other, of course, it took some time for Annie to trust Iain, which is understandable even though I wanted her to trust him right away. This book was also very erotic in a very beautiful way, the sex scenes weren’t hard or very detailed but they were perfect. I could actually feel their love for each other at the end, throughout the book, Pamela described their feelings for each other so well, not only in words but also in actions. I can’t truly describe how I feel right now, but, after finishing Surrender, I cried. I actually cried because it was over. I shall miss my Rangers so much.

Speaking of Rangers: oh my, I love them too!!! The secondary characters were as awesome as the MCs. Iain’s brothers, Morgan and Connor were amazing and I cannot wait to read their story. Joseph, Killy and all the others as well, I enjoyed reading about them so much and that’s why I cried so badly at the end. Because, even though it was a beautiful ending, it was over. I really need to read the next book! I’m still a bit confused about Lord William Wentworth, I mean, he is a bastard, no doubts about that but he’s confusing me! I need more information about him!

The plot, the story in itself was, once again, amazing. The romance is a good part of the book, the story is mostly focused on the relationship between Iain and Annie but it’s also much more than just that. Like I said, the historical part of the book was so interesting and needed.

I don’t want to write a big review because I will repeat myself but Surrender blew my mind, it really did and thank you Pamela for this amazing, mind blowing and beautiful story.

I’m a huge fan of Pamela’s work, her I-Team series is amongst my favorites. So I decided to give her MacKinnon’s Rangers series a go. I had this lovely number on audiobook, cause I’m also a big fan of Kaelo Griffith. He is one of the best narrators ever, cause the way he said some of the lines in this book made me die. Repeatedly. As I melted into a pile of goo on the floor. Beautiful!

I absolutely loved Iain! He was everything I would want in a highlander. He truly was a genuine man deep down, although at times he allowed his emotions to rage a little—which always resulted in something amazing between him and Annie. He always tried to do what was right by those around him, putting others before himself. He was loyal to those he deemed worthy of it, and gave’em hell if they didn’t. He had a huge heart, and had so much passion buried deep inside that when it came out, it was scorching and all-consuming. He knew how to treasure a woman, how to respect her and treat her like she was a queen. He had a knack for knowing who could be trusted. The things he did for Annie had me riveted and swooning with every page. He had the best of intentions when he rescued her, thinking nothing more of it beyond that. But somehow she had managed to get under his skin and burrow into his heart when he could not in any way let her go. In a matter of days, she had become his and he refused to lose her. He protected her in every way possible. His love for her ran so deep, that despite all the challenges that had been in their path, their bond did nothing but grow into a connection that was destined.

Annie was a genuine-hearted woman. She had a rough life, the way she’d grown up tearing at any future she could have possibly had. So when she is rescued by Iain, she sees it as a way to start over and have a life free of the torments that had been forced upon her. She relied heavily on Iain, torn between wanting to run for her life or staying with the man whom made her feel protected. She was constantly at war with herself during her time with him, wondering if things between them would change if he ever knew the truth. But their whirlwind passion swept her up in the love of a man whom she found was everything to her. She did everything she could for him, she worried about him, she did as he asked, and she loved him so deeply she couldn’t imagine life without him. She didn’t want to leave him, hoping that she could have her new life with him wherever he was. She was a huge part of his life, and the life of his rangers, always finding ways she could be useful to them. She learned a lot about him and his mean, and learned to trust him with her life. She embraced everything he made her feel, and in the end, her trust and compassion found her a love so true and deep, that is seemed like it was meant to be.

I loved Iain and Annie’s relationship. The way things flowed and how they happened really made everything so much more meaningful and passionate. It showed a depth that not many people have, and a kind of understanding that is often lost in today’s world. It showed that when you find the right person, nothing in the world will keep you a part. Another wonderful story! Looking forward to the next ranger.
