A slow start -as with many of Diana Wynne Jones' novels - that gradually ramps up into a real gem of an adventure! Not sure about some of DWJ's interpretation of arabian nights, and has some questionable moments that seem to be rather common within her works. HOWEVER, still very funny and light-hearted, with a happily-ever-after ending.

I mean...y'all that ending? The reveals? SO FUNNNN. Yes I was a bit bored at the beginning but when the story got going I flew through it. A short, fun story. And I'm sad that abdullah and howl and Sophie aren't better friends, and also the soldier was a little annoying and so were the cats, but I'm TELLING u the end reveal made it make so much more sense and made me less mad. Like the fact we never got a name for the soldier? The genie having Howl's personality? Midnight's tenacity cuz of Sophie? Mhmmmm the details y'all. But it still doesn't change the fact that I was sad we didn't get more meat in the story. And it was like, not super deep which is completely fine but that is how I gauge like, impact, yk? It was good tho. I love Diana's style of writing and I LOVED abdullahs and flower-of-the-night's flowery language in contrast to ingary. I will definitely be reading the next one cuz I love howl and Sophie even if they are a bit problematic and argue like, all the time (out of love!) Hehehe:)

This sequel to Howl’s Moving Castle is inspired by Arabian Nights and again is extremely creative. I unfortunately cannot give this book a 5/5 due to the racist characterizations from Jones’ adaptation of Arabian Nights and very problematic fat-shaming.
The first half of the book truly bored me, as Abdullah is not the most interesting protagonist and much world building was being set. Nonetheless, I felt very compelled to finish the story once the characters from Howl’s Moving Castle get involved. There are many strongly written, feminist characters which is a nice change in pace, I wish they were focused on more. It was incredibly refreshing to see women and girls depicted in all different ways and strengthens working together to find a solution as a collective.
Apart from the aforementioned grievances with the book, this was an exciting crossover with a super creative twist.

Sweet and adorable. To put it most simply.

Had a great time with this one. While most of the characters don't really change at all, I really wasn't bothered by it. The twist was fun, the characters were still interesting, and how they responded to things was funny. A great cozy read.
