I liked new Beth's story, we get a few peeks at original Beth, plus we get to see what makes Hero all twisty and possibly redeemable. 4.5 stars.

Yay! my library has purchased the series! after a quick check at the first 2 volumes i read, i saw there were 2 'books' in each volumes. so that places me at book 5 as my starting point. great series - i laughed; i cried. the ending was as satisfying as it could be: many explainations for the plague are offered but none are confirmed as the truth; the expected love story takes a turn for the worst but delivers an even better outcome (for a short while anyhow, and then the ensuing tragedy is felt deep enough to produce tears), the themes of who we are in the face of expectations/namesakes/cloning are explored, and we get to fast forward 60 years, stopping at spots along the way to see the various story threads coming to a end. and we are there for beloved ampersand's death and it's more touching than the lover's ending.
yes, a very satisfying series indeed

Everything in this weirdly homophobic garbage world is still garbage, but at least we're finally done whining around the country and most of the shooting appears to have been shoot. Spoiler, it's the goddamn monkey, and now, as we head in to volume SIX, ffs, we're finally going to maybe start to figure out what the hell this whole plague thing was even about.
Also, remember when I complained about the Orientalism in Vol 3? Vaughan doubles down on it here, and tries to brand Rick as some racist schmuck for raising eyebrows at her name. "What, do you think everyone raised their eyebrows at Harrison FORD whenever he came to town?"
Here's the thing: Toyota is a made up word. It's not like Henry Ford naming his car after himself, then having lots of little surname-Fords all appearing to be named after a car. The Toyoda Loom company (Toyoda WAS a family name) invented, and trademarked it in the thirties. (The characters for Toyoda mean fertile fields or something. I learned all of this back in college, I'm not looking it up. Anyway, to dissociate from sounding too fuddy duddy, they played around with the brushstrokes of the characters - like how font designers might fiddle with serifs is a terrible analogy - and figured out how to make a similar sounding word that was free from such associations. Toyota. In the context of this fucking book, it's less like Henry Ford naming a car after himself, and more like Henry Ford deciding that his name was too pedestrian, so he named his company Flord. Than some other Ford, completely unrelated to Henry, decided Yeah! Flord! And changed their name TO Flord. And now Flord is a family name for some shitty mercenary in this poor book. Which, come on, IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED HERE.)
Well, that aside was more thoughts than I had on the entire volume, so eff it, on to Book 6.

This installment was a little better than the last one. At least there were no more crazy feminist theories. But damn, how many more nations are on the hunt for Yorick and his monkey? Is this a geography lesson? LOL

I cannot get enough of Yorick and the rest of the gang and found the ending to be anticlimactic compare to the previous volumes. We finally find out how Yorick survived and yet that one variable is going to be the major dilemma in the upcoming volumes.
I'm already half way into the series and yet I feel like this is just the beginning. I'm excited to see what happens now in the future volumes and I am truly speechless when it comes to how this series will end. I find the storyline to be captivating and I love all the characters and the dynamic chemistry they add while suffering to find the world's cure for humanity.
