I felt like I was catching up with friends as I read this book. One of the goals of Meredith James' very organised life is to have a social life and make friends, so she decides to start a crochet group. Meredith is very specific about it being a crochet group as she has had bad experience with knitters in the past who apparently like to take groups over. The Copeton Craft Collective is born. The group is eclectic: married mother of five Claire, pregnant Yasmin, chatty Lottie, and grandmotherly Edith. Edith's very good looking grandson Luke joins the group and Meredith really doesn't know what to do about this. A young woman, Harper, also joins the group and she seems to have little in common with anyone. Outside events in Copeton influence the group - a refugee centre is being planned as is a mosque. There is a horrible tide of racist behaviour from a small but vocal group. The Copeton Craft Collective become the Copeton Craft Resistance as they work together to fight the racist bullies in a peaceful, creative and beautiful way.
One of my favourite quotes is : "When she crocheted, she didn’t have to think. Didn’t have to play scenes from the past on repeat, thinking of what she might have done differently. When Harper was creating, she could just be.” And another I really related to: “The problem was with the constant deliciousness of a new idea. It was always more exciting to start a new project than to plod away with one whose appeal had gone stale.”

More than just "a book and I read it" but I'm not sure I'd read it again.

It was nice reading a crafty story based in Australia.

All the characters were well-written and very different from each other, yet believable. Their interactions were interesting and sometimes funny.
I liked how the story moved around to each of them, showing their lives, stories and motivations.
When I picked it up, I hadn't realised that it was an Australian setting, so that was a bonus.

Beautifully warm hearted read. Wonderful characters and funny. could relate to most of them in some way. Although wonderfully described, I would love to see the crochet exploits in real life.
