I noticed This book promoted as “one Book Dublin” when we were walking around that city. So glad to have read it- charming characters, very sweet (and somewhat bittersweet) story. Also enjoyed listening to some of it…and I do love how frequently the Irish describe things / feelings as “grand”

Reminiscent of Sally Rooney with characters drawn from lower down the class food chain, this debut coming-of-age story explores themes of love, family, depression and self-discovery in the twenty-first century.

While quirky and weird at times, it is also powerful and haunting. The narrative style is fresh and authentic, and Nealon does an excellent job of capturing the struggles of being a young woman in rural Ireland.

⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 1/2

I loved how raw and human this book made me feel. It really exposed human nature, and a family just trying to connect and take care of each other. Listened to part of the audio book and the Irish accent is so fun.

This was a well-written and thoughtful book but I'm not sure what the takeaway is. It was about a family struggling with depression and self-awareness. I suppose that is enough of subject to tackle.

No rating because I put aside for now. While I was thoroughly enjoying the writing and storyline, I wasn’t sure if the vegan jokes were humor or making fun. Also, some scenes in general with cows were too much for me. It may be best to avoid dairy farm settings for this animal lover.
