Audible version: Coming of age novels are a tough sell for me, but this one caught my attention, maybe more because it’s Irish than anything. While I really liked the relationship between Debbie and her uncle, I didn’t understand the relationship she had with Xanthe and I didn’t understand how everything that worked out, worked out so quickly and easily. It was sort of like watching a movie that just glosses over the hard stuff and ends with everyone living happily ever after and you just know in real life, shit would just fall apart in the next week. There was also the magical aspect that I felt was somewhat out of place, though it really took center stage. Maybe four stars is too many, but I really liked everything else.

Just another cast of flawed little Irish people navigating their way through the world. Wasn’t sure how much I was actually going to connect with the characters during the first half. But once the starting conflict happens, it kickstarting the character development in a really beautiful way. AUDREY AND XANTHE I ADORE YOU!!!!
