Weil es mir eine sehr, sehr gute Freundin geschenkt hatte, bin ich nach zweieinhalb Jahren dem Versprechen nachgekommen, trotz meiner Antipathie gegen den Autor dieses Büchlein zu lesen. Ich verstehe, dass manche Lesende die Sprache des Paulo Coelho für poetisch halten, seine Märchen ergreifend und Sinn-stiftend finden. Persönlich halte ich jedoch "Der Weg des Bogens" genauso wie "Der Alchemist" für aufgeblasenen Kitsch.
Die Meditation auf den Zen-Buddhismus und die Kunst des Bogenschießens erreicht mich so wenig, wie ein in die falsche Richtung abgeschossener Pfeil. Wem Zitate wie das folgende etwas geben, der findet sicherlich auch eine Vielzahl an Instagram-Accounts mit einem Motto für jeden Tag:
"Daher musst du dein Ziel gut auswählen, den Bestes geben, um es zu erreichen, und das Ziel immer mit Respekt und Würde betrachten."
Mein Ziel wird aber sein, mich trotz der stilvollen Illustrationen von Christoph Niemann künftig von Werken Paulo Coelhos fernzuhalten.

A really quick story. While it was short, I really thought that the message was quite nice. The teachings of "The Archer" can be applied to many different aspects of life. For me, right now Tetsuya's teaching made me think of my passion for medicine and how becoming a doctor might be my target, but shooting a target without passion leads us down a non-sustainable path. It is important to do things in life with passion.
While "The Archer" did not feel as though it taught me anything novel, it reminded me of teachings that I have learned in life that I had forgotten. Thanks Paulo, for reminding us of the passion of living.

A very short read. Lovely illustrations. I would recommend it to those who read books on zen, meditations, and the spirit of the samurai as it is very much a Way of the Bow story.
