It was fine, I don't really get the hype. But good enough story. I didn't hate it. The love part fell very flat for me. And the jumping around in the story made me confused which ultimately made me not care. For example, the main character's father turned into a ghost but I didn't really know why or how and I didn't feel compelled to actually go back and read that part again to recall. He's a ghost now, whatever.. okay. I have to say the only time I felt true happiness during this story is when the end finally came around.

Bit too slow for me. Listened to the audiobook and with a story that’s mostly vibes and imagery, I had a hard time tracking the plot. The imagery is beautiful though! Lovely and atmospheric. I’m also reading the Starless Sea which is a bit more plot driven, and I prefer that book a lot more.

Trying to write this right after finishing this book is like trying to wake up from a dream you didn't really know you were having. There's a usual book haze that follows when you end a particularly good book. This one feels different, more present somehow. If nothing else, you'll fall in love with the Night Circus many times over by the time you reach the end. Pick up this book just for that.

What is this book about, you ask? It's about two people who find themselves in a situation they haven't really been prepared for though their instructors would beg to differ. It's about a life lived over many, many, many years and some unforseen consequences. And mostly it's about a magic circus that's only open after sunset, and how things take a life of their own, sometimes quite literally.

4.5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story was unique and the writing was so beautiful and lyrical, I felt like the words were singing to me. The descriptions put forth made the sights, sounds and smells come alive and I felt like I was at the circus. The circus as the stage for this magical battle between Marco & Celia was foundational, but really this story was about all of the consequences of this forced battle and how each "move" affected everyone involved even the minor characters.

The only thing holding this back from 5 stars, was that I found it very hard to keep the timeline straight, skipping months & years, between the future and the past, so I had to keep looking at the contents to remember the time when an event occurred or even what time period we were currently in.

Bravo for naming the character who wound up saving the circus, Bailey ;)
