Hadn’t visited 1940s Europe in a while and this book was a new and different WWII story than I’ve read. Bad ass FMC!!

Wonderful book; but as you’d expect, this is far from a light-hearted read.

A gripping story about the reality of womanhood during WWII with an epic scope and awful, but historical, twists. This book really excellently gave me a snapshot of Bina’s life from her early 20s into her late 80s— the pacing is smart and this moves quickly enough that I wasn’t overly bogged down in the details. It was hard to listen to many parts of this book, but quite frankly, it should be. Genocide is a horrifying and sobering reality. I wish I had gotten just a little bit more out of the ending, but this book will stick with me nonetheless.

While, I didn't particularly care for the occasional shallowness of the main character and some of the more cartoonish supporting characters, I thought that the horrors of war and fanaticism came through loud and clear. I found the book engrossing and riveting.

Stay with this book!!! Don’t give up!

I like historical fiction because even if 1/4 of the story is true, the courage and tenacity displayed is much more than almost all of us today exhibit throughout our entire life. Their will to live, will to help others even if they but themselves in harms way, and the reinvention of themselves after living through something horrific is incredible. This is a wonderful story of all that.

Meet Bina in Warsaw, Poland slightly after the Nazis invaded Poland. She dives into the secret world of spying, and weapons transfers to resist the Nazis. The secrets, the missions, and the dangers. But then she is in Hollywood and rises to fame as Lena. As Lena recounts her life story to Sienna, the hottest new actress for her new role, she tells of the horrors of Poland to the glittering world of Hollywood. As she continues to right her past.

a zionist writing about the warsaw uprising and finding no connection to modern events makes my head hurt - didn’t realize what the author was about until i was like 2/3s through.
