This book highlighted a portion of WW2 history I did not know, the Warsaw Uprising. It’s interesting how little we learn about the Jewish ghettos and so much about what happened to them at concentration camps. This book feels particularly timely with current world events. 

At times the book felt overly dramatic. My notes from the first third include

“why is she so horny all the time hahaha, I love a steamy love story but her focus on how much she wants to bang Aleksander is distracting.” As the book progresses I realized that her sexuality and beauty is one of her weapons but it was distracting. I wish we got a bit more about how she planned and successfully killed so many escaped Nazis. And I appreciate that her happy ending was very bittersweet. I wish more books ended with a slice of reality, I think that’s why I like Sally Rooney but I digress.
